The Power of Patience calls on us to reclaim our time, our priorities, and our ability to respond to life with a firmly grounded sense of who we are. Richard Carlson said,” The book Power of Patience is a true gift to the world. It’s insightful and full of calm, helpful wisdom.”
1. That’s ok: The Power of Acceptance
When you lovingly tend to an elderly parent who never thank you, when you calmly explain to a fussy two-year-old for the forty-seventh time why he can’t climb on the furniture, you are demonstrating patience.
Here you understand they are created by people who are, like you, flawed human beings who just want to be happy.
This is the way one can accept things and accept can lead to having a grip over patience.
2. Boredom is all in our heads
In this era, we want, we need, and constant stimulation or else we are bored. What you can do is refuse to consider anything boring.
When People are bored it is primarily with their own shelves that they are bored
-Eric Hoffer
Boredom is created by an inability to delay gratification and a low tolerance for frustration, both of which have serious implications for success in life and in love. One must consider this, “Nothing is boring even the most routine tasks”.
Therefore observe and enjoy every bit and piece of life empathetically.
3. Be here now
“Realize deeply that the present moment is all you ever have,” he writes in his best-selling book, The Power of Now.
Awareness is the present moment. This is the moment that has never happened before and will never come again. One must consider the below line.
Breathing in, I am aware of breathing in. Breathing out, I am aware of breathing out.
One is ought to greet life, moment by moment. This is the power of patience and feels of the moment.
4. Waiting is part of being alive
Much of life requires waiting and we have a choice to do it happily or miserably. Waiting can never be eliminated from our lives. And the more we accept the truth, the happier will be.
Let us, then, be up and doing,
With a heart for any fate;
Still achieving, still pursuing,
Learn to labour and to wait.
-Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
To live is to wait.
5. I’m Still Learning
Awareness allows us to learn. Don’t push yourself too much. There is a world of difference between feeling like a failure and feeling like you have something to learn.
One leads to stuckness and despair, the other to possibility and growth.
When your patience buttons get pushed, try seeing it as an occasion to learn something about yourself. Ask, why is this hard for me?
You will be amazed at what such an attitude will produce.
Conclusion
Intent to cultivate patience is half the battle. Try cultivating patience a little; it will come fully to you naturally. The author in the book Power of Patience shares what she has learned about the gifts the quality of patience can bestow, the attitudes that foster a patient outlook, and the tools that help us respond patiently”
“The key to everything is patience. You get the chicken by hatching the egg, not by smashing it.
-Arnold H. Glasgow”
