The book salt to sea takes place in 1945 when World War 2 begins. Salt to the Sea follows four different perspectives throughout the novel.

They are in East Prussia and the soviets are slowly closing in on them. They meet each other for the one thing i.e. escapes from the East Prussia.

Characters

Joana Vilkas is one of four narrators. Joana is a kind and highly skilled nurse. Florian Beck is one of four narrators.

Florian is a talented young restoration artist from East Prussia, Alfred and Emilia Stozek. There are different other characters also but these are the main characters of the novel salt to sea.

In the book Salt to Sea

All the characters are essentially running for their lives from the atrocities during the War. They are doing everything in their power to survive. This means they need to evacuate and they do it through a ship. The ship would take them to Germany.

Between Shades of Gray

Why the title?

The reason why the salt to the sea because they are all connected to this one ship called Wilhelm Gustloff.

The disaster happens. The sinking of the Wilhelm Gustloff is the deadliest maritime disaster in history of the world carrying thousands of refugees.  The entire novel leads up to something really dark.

My view

I do not want to write more about the book otherwise it will be spoiler for you all. This is definitely a book you want to read and experience for yourself and if I were to ruin that I would be mad at myself.

An Overcrowded Ship is the Final Hope

It’s an immersive wonderful, exciting read.
